Kamali named MIAA Wrestler of the Week
HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The University of Olivet senior Benyamin Kamali has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Wrestler of the Week.
Kamali had a 4-0 record to help Olivet post a 3-1 record at its own Comet Duals. He started the day with a 14-4 major decision over Jase Van Pelt from Cornell (Iowa) College, who is No. 2 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Region 6 rankings. Kamali then won back-to-back technical falls, 21-6 over Cole Anderson from King's (Pa.) College and 17-2 over Keno Vanier from Augsburg (Minn.) University. Kamali closed the day with an 18-8 major decision over Brett Stanley from John Carroll (Ohio) University, who is No. 5 in the NWCA Region 5 rankings.
With the four wins, Kamali improves his season record to 11-1. He has scored bonus points in eight of the wins – one pin, five technical falls and two major decisions. Kamali's lone loss was a 11-9 decision in the championship match at the Trine (Ind.) Invitational.
Olivet returns to the mats on Saturday, December 7, at the Ohio Northern University Polar Bear Invitational.
