Wrestling team crushes Heidelberg, 33-6
Led by first-period pins by seniors Kenny Richmond (Brighton) at 141 pounds and James Myers (Monroe/Indian Creek) at 165 pounds, the Olivet College wrestling team crushed Heidelberg (Ohio) University, 33-6, tonight inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – Led by first-period pins by seniors Kenny Richmond (Brighton) at 141 pounds and James Myers (Monroe/Indian Creek) at 165 pounds, the Olivet College wrestling team crushed Heidelberg (Ohio) University, 33-6, tonight inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
After a close 11-9 loss for junior Henry McKeown (Bellevue/Olivet) at 125 pounds, the Comets won six straight bouts. Senior Kam Olsen (Kentwood/East Kentwood) got the winning streak started with a 7-6 win at 133 pounds. Richmond scored a takedown before taking his opponent to his back for a pin in one minute, 54 seconds. Junior Justin Holm (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) won 3-0 at 149 pounds.
Sophomore Kyle Witgen (Romeo) then posted a 12-4 major decision win at 157 pounds. Myers followed with his first-period pin in one minute, 19 seconds. Following an 8-4 loss for junior Connor Sharp (Schoolcraft) at 174 pounds, sophomore Jeff Holm (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) used an escape point at the start of the third period for a 3-2 victory at 184 pounds.
Junior Andrew Simpson (Tecumseh) fell behind 5-0 in the first 15 seconds of the match, but bounced back to record a 24-7 technical fall win at 197 pounds. Senior Jake Ceslick (Alpena) scored a penalty point in the third period for a narrow 2-1 win at 285 pounds.
Olivet is now off until next Tuesday, Feb. 12, when it wrestles at Alma College. The match at the Art Smith Arena gets started at 7 p.m.
