OLIVET, Mich. – The 2012 Olivet College wrestling camps are underway inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. This week, eight teams with more than 100 wrestlers are participating in a team camp. Next week, approximately 75 children between the ages of six and 18 will participate in an individual camp.
Teams participating in this week's camp are Battle Creek Lakeview, Central Montcalm, Maple Valley, Middleville Thornapple Kellogg, New Lothrop, Niles, Romeo and Westland John Glenn. The head coaches for half of the teams are Olivet alumni. They are Ken Bunting from Central Montcalm, Jeff Campbell from New Lothrop, Chris Dunham from Lakeview and Bill Polk from John Glenn.
The teams have worked on technique and conditioning during the first couple days of the camp. In addition, a dual match tournament and individual tournament will take place. On Thursday night, the camp staff will select two wrestlers from each weight for an All-Camp team, and on Friday morning, those two wrestlers will wrestle against each other.
The individual camp next Monday thru Thursday will allow the wrestlers to improve their technique, as well as work on their conditioning and strength training. If time allows, there will be a competition to see who the best wrestlers are.
Over the two weeks, more than 30 current Olivet wrestlers are volunteering their time. They will assist in all areas of the camp, including serving as refs for matches at the team camp and camp counselors after the sessions in the resident halls.
