Wrestling team flattens Mount St. Joseph, 48-3
Behind six pins, including five in the first period, the Olivet College wrestling team got the 2012 portion of its schedule off to a great start with a dominating 48-3 win over College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – Behind six pins, including five in the first period, the Olivet College wrestling team got the 2012 portion of its schedule off to a great start with a dominating 48-3 win over College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
Freshman Esteban Gonzales (Davisburg/Holly) started the match with a forfeit win at 125 pounds. Junior Kam Olsen (Kentwood/East Kentwood) then won 8-2 at 133 pounds.
At 141 pounds, junior Kenny Richmond (Brighton) pinned his opponent in 6:18. At 149 pounds, sophomore Gage Pederson (Hastings) was next on the mat and stuck his opponent in 1:24.
Freshman Dan Fleet (Ada/Lowell) lost 8-4 at 157 pounds. Junior James Myers (Monroe/Indian Creek) followed with a pin in 40 seconds at 165 pounds. Senior 174-pounder Trevor Tyler (Roscommon) pinned his wrestler in 2:39.
Junior Josh Crawford (Birch Run) kept the winning with a 10-4 victory at 184 pounds. Senior Justin Leonard (Webberville) and Jake Ceslick (Alpena) posted pins at 197 and 285 pounds, respectively. Leonard won in 1:41, while Ceslick recorded his pin in 49 seconds.
The Comets will next compete Saturday and Sunday at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield, Ill. Olivet received the No. 7 seed and will face No. 10 seed University of Wis.-Whitewater in the opening round Saturday at 11 a.m. CT, with the winner advancing to face the winner of the No. 15 seed Rhode Island College vs. No. 2 seed Augsburg (Minn.) College match Saturday at 3 p.m. CT. The losers of the two matches will also face each other at 3 p.m.
