Wrestling team beats Trine, 39-4
The wrestling team celebrated Senior Night by winning nine-of-10 matches en route to a 39-4 win over Trine tonight inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. -- The Olivet College wrestling team celebrated Senior Night by winning nine-of-10 matches en route to a 39-4 win over Trine (Ind.) University tonight inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
The Comets, ranked No. 8 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association poll, put the first 18 points on the scoreboard, as senior Adam Wilson (Battle Creek/Harper Creek), freshman Robbie Bidlingmaier (Chesterfield Twp./Anchor Bay) and sophomore Kenny Richmond (Brighton) each received forfeit victories at 125, 133 and 141 pounds, respectively.
At 149 pounds, senior Vince Tucker (Clio) needed a takedown and three-point nearfall to score a come-from-behind victory. Junior Steve Mena (Martin) blanked his opponent, 4-0, at 157 pounds. Sophomore James Myers (Wintersville, Ohio/Indian Creek) posted an 8-2 win at 165 pounds. At 174 pounds, junior Trevor Tyler (Roscommon) won, 9-5. Senior Jim Neal (Marysville) got two takedowns and an escape in the third period to win 10-5 at 184 pounds. Sophomore Logan Renas (Big Rapids) ended the night and capped Olivet's win with a pin just 13 seconds into the third period.
The Comets will return to action Saturday when they participate in the annual Mid-States Conference Tournament at Manchester (Ind.) College.
