Wrestling team finishes in third-place at Mid-States Conference Tournament
The Olivet College wrestling team finished in third-place today at the 2010 Mid-States Conference Tournament, which was hosted by Wabash (Ind.) College.
The Olivet College wrestling team finished in third-place today at the 2010 Mid-States Conference Tournament, which was hosted by Wabash (Ind.) College.
The Comets crowned two champions and collected 129 points. Trine (Ind.) University won the team championship with 150 points, while the host Little Giants were second with 132.5 points.
Winning championships were junior Adam Wilson (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) at 133 pounds and sophomore Trevor Tyler (Roscommon) at 174 pounds. Each posted a 2-0 record. Wilson won 3-1 and then beat Oscar Trujillo from Wabash in the championship match, 10-1. Tyler had a bye in the first round and beat his next two opponents, 10-8 and 11-6.
Finishing in second-place were sophomore Justin Jaynes (Richmond) at 165 pounds and freshman Josh Crawford (Birch Run) at 174 pounds. Jaynes won his first two matches and lost 7-1 in the championship bout. Crawford won his first match and was pinned in the championship bout.
Olivet will be back in action when it hosts a triangular meet next Tuesday, Feb. 9. Club teams from Grand Valley State and Oakland will be the other two participating teams, and action gets started at 6 p.m. inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
