Wrestling team loses to No. 4 Heidelberg, 27-9
In a battle of nationally-ranked teams, the Olivet College wrestling team fell to Heidelberg (Ohio) College, 27-9, tonight at Seiberling Gymnasium in Tiffin, Ohio. The Comets entered the match ranked No. 15 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association Poll, while the Student Princes were ranked No. 4.

The Comets entered the match ranked No. 15 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association Poll, while the Student Princes were ranked No. 4.
The Comets were forced to forfeit the 125-pound weight class to fall behind 6-0 in the team score. At 133 pounds, Heidelberg's Boomer Fechko stretched his team's lead to 9-0 with a 13-6 win.
Olivet scored three team points, as junior Rob Yahrmarkt (Sparta) gained a 3-2 win against Nick Sanchez in the 141-pound bout. At 149 pounds, freshman Vince Lahar (Clio) defeated Zach Mizer by a 10-4 score to pull the Comets within three points, 9-6, in the team score.
The Student Princes extended its lead back to six points, 12-6, as Joe Pflug scored an 11-5 win at 157 pounds. Senior Daron Cruickshank (Inkster/John Glenn) put three more team points on the scoreboard for the Comets with a 4-2 win over Ian Rammel at 165 pounds. Heidelberg sealed its win by winning the last four matches – three by minor decision (12-5 at 174 pounds, 8-2 at 184 pounds and 7-3 at 285 pounds) and one by pin in 1:20 at 197 pounds.
Olivet is back in action next Saturday, Dec. 15, when it participates in the Ohio Northern University Invitational in Ada, Ohio. Action at the ONU Sports Center gets under way at 9 a.m.
