Olivet College’s Brew and Vanderhyde training and competing in central Asia
Olivet College senior wrestlers Jason Brew (Sparta) and Kyle Vanderhyde (Sparta) have traveled to central Asia for a 15-day training, mission and service trip. Joining them are six other athletes and two coaches. The group left May 25 and will return June 8.
The training is taking place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and Dushanbe, Tajikistan. In addition, the wrestlers will do mission and service work, along with visiting historical and cultural sites in the two countries.
Joining Brew and Vanderhyde on the trip are Seth Flodeen, Jason Adams, Lucas Murray and Jake Saatzer from Augsburg (Minn.) College, as well as Augsburg head wrestling coach Sam Barber and assistant coach John Peterson. Also attending are Steve Barrett, a three-time All-American wrestler at Oklahoma State who currently works as a representative for Athletes in Action in Russia; Ben Hoover from Maranatha Baptist Bible (Wisc.) College; and Ravshan Uraimov, a three-time national boxing champion from Kyrgyzstan.
