Wrestling team defeats Chicago, 28-12
The Olivet College wrestling team won seven-of-10 matches en route to a 28-12 victory against the University of Chicago this evening at MacKay Gymnasium in Olivet. The Comets’ wins consisted of two by forfeit, one by major decision and four by minor decision.

Freshman Blair Mellish (Silverwood/North Branch) and sophomore Rob Yahrmarkt (Sparta) each won by forfeit at 125 and 141 pounds, respectively. Senior Ken Andrews (Swartz Creek) at 157 pounds earned the major decision victory, 10-2.
Freshman 133-pounder Blake Gardner (Mount Morris), sophomore 174-pounder Kyle Vanderhyde (Sparta), junior 184-pounder Daron Cruickshank (Inkster/John Glenn) and senior 197-pounder Jeff Wright (Escanaba) all won by minor decision. Gardner won 12-6, while Vanderhyde picked-up a 5-2 win. Cruickshank had the most thrilling victory, winning 2-1 in three sudden death periods. Wright won 3-2 after getting a takedown with approximately 20 seconds remaining in his match.
Olivet is back in action this Saturday when it participates in the Eastern Ohio Duals at Mount Union College. The duals are set-up in a tournament format with each team wrestling three matches. The Comets’ first round match is against Muskingum (Ohio) College at 11 a.m.
