Wrestling team has 3-0 record at Wabash Monon Bell Duals
The Olivet College wrestling team posted a 3-0 record at the 26th Annual Wabash (Ind.) College Monon Bell Duals today at Chadwick Hall in Crawfordsville, Ind.
The Olivet College wrestling team posted a 3-0 record at the 26th Annual Wabash (Ind.) College Monon Bell Duals today at Chadwick Hall in Crawfordsville, Ind. The Comets defeated Lincoln (Ill.) College, 39-4; Millikin (Ill.) University, 39-9; and Manchester (Ind.) College, 30-18. Olivet also wrestled a unscored match against a mix of wrestlers from other schools.
Senior 157-pounder Ken Andrews (Swartz Creek), junior 184-pounder Daron Cruickshank (Inkster/John Glenn) and sophomore 141-pounder Rob Yahrmarkt (Sparta) each posted a 4-0 record. Andrews’ wins were two by technical fall, one by forfeit and one by decision. Cruickshank had two wins by major decision, one by decision and one by forfeit. Yahrmarkt pinned three opponents and won the fourth by major decision.
At 197 pounds, senior Jeff Wright (Escanaba) and freshman Joe Yurisich (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) each had a 2-0 record. Wright recorded a pair of decision victories, while Yurisich had a win by pin and major decision. At 285 pounds, freshman Sean Misko (Richmond) was 2-0, while junior Tucker Surbrook (Potterville) won a match.
At 125 pounds, sophomore Kyle Labrecque (Battle Creek/Lakeview) earned a pair of wins and freshman Blair Mellish (Silverwood/North Branch) had one win. Sophomore Jason Brew (Sparta) had three victories at 165 pounds before suffering an injury in his match against Manchester’s Joe Hoover. Freshman Ben Temple (Perry) also finished the day with a 3-1 record at 174 pounds.
Junior Nick Wolf (Olivet) compiled two wins at 149 pounds. Freshman Blake Gardner (Mount Morris) won one bout at 133 pounds.
The Comets are back in action Saturday, Feb. 10, when they compete in the 2007 Mid-States Conference Tournament at Tri-State (Ind.) University. Action at Hershey Hall in Angola gets under way at 9 a.m.
