The Olivet College wrestling team has earned the No. 13 seed at the 2006 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA)/Cliff Keen National Duals Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 13-14 on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Rapids.
The Comets, who are making their first-ever trip to the National Duals, will face No. 3 seed Heidelberg (Ohio) College in the first round Saturday at 9 a.m. CT. The winner will advance to wrestle either No. 5 seed Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University or No. 12 seed Buena Vista (Iowa) University Saturday at 1 p.m. CT, while the losers will also compete Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.
“I am pleased with facing Heidelberg in the first round,” said Head Coach Todd Hibbs. “They are tough and clearly the favorite, but it is a regional match-up that we will enjoy. Also, some of our guys will match up with a nationally-ranked opponent, and I am happy to see them have the chance to do that.”
Entering the weekend’s action, Olivet has a 7-3 record and is ranked No. 28 in the latest NWCA Top 30 poll. The Comets’ three losses were to nationally-ranked opponents at the Comet Duals Nov. 18.
