Wrestling team defeats MSOE and Lawrence
The Olivet College wrestling team won two dual matches this evening at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) Triangular at the Kern Center in Milwaukee, Wisc. The Comets defeated the host Raiders, 30-3, and beat Lawrence (Wisc.) University, 43-3.

The Comets defeated the host Raiders, 30-3, and beat Lawrence (Wisc.) University, 43-3. Olivet remains in Milwaukee and will compete in the MSOE Invitational tomorrow, beginning at 9 a.m. CT.
Against MSOE, the Comets won nine-of-10 matches -- eight wins were by decision and the other was a forfeit win. Freshman 125-pounder Steve Jando (New Lothrop) picked-up the forfeit victory. The rest of the winners were senior 133-pounder Kefentse Mandisa (Westland/John Glenn), 5-1; senior 141-pounder Shawn Parker (Inkster/John Glenn), 6-4; freshman 149-pounder Jason Brew (Sparta), 9-4; senior 157-pounder Mike Daubenmeyer (Macomb/Lutheran North), 7-2; freshman 165-pounder Kyle Vanderhyde (Sparta), 13-6; senior 174-pounder Mike Andrews (Swartz Creek), 6-3; freshman 184-pounder Joe Troncone (Macomb/Center Line), 6-2; and freshman heavyweight Levi Stegeman (Hazel Park/Groves), 4-2.
Against Lawrence, Olivet had three wins by forfeit, two wins by pin, one win by major decision win and three wins by decision. The forfeit victories were by freshman Rob Yahrmarkt (Sparta) at 141 pounds, Daubenmeyer at 157 pounds and freshman Keith Sterly (Petoskey) at heavyweight.
Senior 184-pounder Ryan Newberry (Grand Junction/South Haven) pinned his opponent in 19 seconds, while sophomore 197-pounder Tucker Surbrook (Potterville) recorded a pin in four minutes, 50 seconds. The major decision win was freshman 133-pounder David Szokola (Marysville), 10-0. Earning decision wins were Jando, 3-2; senior 149-pounder Tyler Goodnight (Midland/Bullock Creek), 6-4; senior 165-pounder Eric Bryan (Fremont, Ind.), 5-2.
Following tomorrow’s action, the Comets will compete at the Ohio Northern University Invitational next Saturday, Dec. 10. Action from the ONU Sports Center begins at 9 a.m.
