The Olivet College wrestling team defeated the Univ. of Chicago, 26-13, this afternoon at Ratner Athletics Center in Chicago. The Comets, ranked 11th in the latest Division III national rankings, won seven-of-10 bouts, including a pair of overtime decisions, en route to the win.
The Olivet College wrestling team defeated the Univ. of Chicago, 26-13, this afternoon at Ratner Athletics Center in Chicago. The Comets, ranked 11th in the latest Division III national rankings, won seven-of-10 bouts, including a pair of overtime decisions, en route to the win.
Olivet earned one win by pin, two by major decision and four by decision. Senior 157-pounder Ken Andrews (Swartz Creek) pinned Spencer Burns in five minutes, 12 seconds. Freshman 149-pounder Jason Brew (Sparta) and freshman heavyweight Keith Sterly (Petoskey) recorded the major decision wins by scores of 9-1 and 13-0, respectively.
The decision wins were by senior 133-pounder Kefentse Mandisa (Westland/John Glenn), 8-2; freshman 165-pounder Kyle Vanderhyde (Sparta), 8-6 overtime; senior 174-pounder Mike Andrews (Swartz Creek), 6-4 overtime; and sophomore 197-pounder Aaron Stewart (Dansville), 3-1.
The Comets return home and will host Tri-State (Ind.) University Sunday, Jan. 8, at 2 p.m.
