The wrestling team had a perfect 4-0 record today at the annual Comet Duals. The Fighting Comets defeated Lycoming (Pa.) College, 21-13; University of Wisc.-Platteville, 19-13; Bethel (Ind.) College, 22-19 and Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) College, 24-16.

Lycoming was ranked 20th in the preseason Brute-Adidas/National Wrestling Coaches Association preseason poll. Junior 141-pounder Shawn Parker (Inkster/John Glenn) pinned his opponent in five minutes. Junior 125-pounder Jerry Samson (Portland), junior 157-pounder Mike Daubenmeyer (Macomb/Lutheran North), junior 165-pounder Mike Andrews (Swartz Creek), senior 174-pounder Todd Miller (Casnovia/Kent City) and senior 184-pounder Ryan Newberry (South Haven) all picked-up decision victories.
Against Platteville, Mandisa tied the team score at 3-3. The Pointers then won the next three matches to take a 10-3 lead. Daubenmeyer started the Olivet rally with a 6-5 win, followed by a 4-3 victory by Andrews. Platteville won the 174-pound match to make the score 13-9. Freshman 184-pounder Aaron Stewart (Dansville) won 7-2 to trim the team deficit to one point. Zeaiter won 12-3 and senior heavyweight Ryan Tiseo (Washington/Romeo) sealed the Olivet win with a 5-1 victory.
Against Bethel, Olivet took an early 12-6 lead on forfeit victories for Mandisa and Parker. The Pilots answered with wins at 149, 157 and 165 pounds. The Comets responded with victories by Andrews, Stewart and Zeaiter.
Olivet took a 10-3 lead and never looked back. Stewart won by pin in 2:32. Andrews won by technical fall, 18-3, Mandisa recorded a major decision victory while Goodnight, Miller and sophomore Jaysen Brandt (Sterling Heights/Henry Ford II) captured decision victories.
The Comets are idle until Friday and Saturday, Dec. 3-4, when they travel to participate in the Milwaukee (Wisc.) School of Engineering Invitational.
