Wrestlers finish in sixth-place at North Central College Invitational
The wrestling team finished in sixth-place (out of 16 schools) at the two-day North Central College Invitational in Naperville, Illinois. The Fighting Comets tallied 66.5 points.
The wrestling team finished in sixth-place (out of 16 schools) at the two-day North Central College Invitational in Naperville, Illinois. The Fighting Comets tallied 66.5 points. Coe (Iowa) College was the team champion with 176 points.
Six Olivet wrestlers placed in the top eight in his respective weight class. Senior 197-pounder Ahmad Zeaiter (Kalamazoo/Portage Northern) was fourth with a 4-2 record. After losing in the quarterfinals of the championship bracket, he advanced to the third-place match with three straight wins in the consolation bracket.
Junior 165-pounder Mike Andrews (Swartz Creek) and senior 174-pounder Todd Miller (Casnovia/Kent City) were sixth. Andrews had a 3-2 record, including a 6-2 win his fifth-place match. Miller finished with a 4-2 record with a 3-0 win in his fifth-place match.
Junior 141-pounder Shawn Parker (Inkster/John Glenn), junior 157-pounder Mike Daubenmeyer (Macomb/Lutheran North) and junior 184-pounder Ryan Newberry (South Haven) placed sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
Olivet will next compete Wednesday, Jan. 19, when it wrestles at Tri-State (Ind.) University at 7 p.m.
