Wrestling Team Opens 2002-03 Dual Match Season With a 22-13 Win Against Univ. of Chicago
The Olivet College wrestling team opened its 2002-03 dual match season with a 22-13 win against University of Chicago at MacKay Gymnasium. In the win, the Comets won six of ten bouts.
OLIVET, MI. -- The Olivet College wrestling team opened its 2002-03 dual match season with a 22-13 win against University of Chicago at MacKay Gymnasium. In the win, the Comets won six of ten bouts.
Leading the way for Olivet was freshman 197-pounder Justin Torres (Holly High School) who pinned his opponent at the 6:45 mark of the bout. Junior 133-pounder Jeff Albrecht (Westland/ John Glenn High School) won by major decision (16-5). Senior 141-pounder Jake Stenz (Alpena High School), senior 149-pounder Chris Dunham (Nashville/ Maple Valley High School), sophomore 174-pounder Ahmad Zeaiter (Kalamazoo/ Portage Northern High School) and sophomore 184-pounder Todd Miller (Casnovia/ Kent City High School) all won by decision.
"I am very ecstatic and proud of this team," said first-year Head Coach Steve Laidacker. "On paper, we should not have beaten this team. However, our preparation and the guys believing in themselves helped us win."
The Comets will next compete this Saturday, Nov. 23 when they host the Comet Duals. The Comets will wrestle against Rose Hulman (Ind.), Simpson (Iowa), Millikin (Ill.) and Bethel (Ind.). Action will start at 10:00 a.m.
