Wrestling Team Finishes in Second Place at the NCAA Division III Regional Meet
The Olivet College wrestling team finished in second place out of 11 teams today at the NCAA Division III Regional Meet at Case Western Reserve University. The Fighting Comets scored 107 points. Manchester College of Indiana won the team title with 111 points.
UNIVERSITY CIRCLE, Ohio -- The Olivet College wrestling team finished in second place out of 11 teams today at the NCAA Division III Regional Meet at Case Western Reserve University. The Fighting Comets scored 107 points. Manchester College of Indiana won the team title with 111 points.
Leading the way for Olivet was freshman Justin Torres (Holly High School). Torres won the championship at 197-pounds and now advances to the NCAA Division III National Championship Meet next Friday-Saturday, March 7-8, at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. He had a 3-0 record with a pin in 1:28, a 11-2 major decision win and a 10-1 major decision victory in the championship match.
Freshman 165-pounder Mike Andrews (Swartz Creek High School) finished in second place and both freshman 133-pounder Shawn Parker (Inkster/John Glenn High School) and senior 149-pounder Chris Dunham (Nashville/Maple Valley High School) were third. Dunham received one of five wild card berths to the national meet and Andrews is the region's third alternate.
In addition, freshman 125-pounder Joe Suchowolec (Sand Lake/Grant High School), senior 141-pounder Jacob Stenz (Alpena High School), freshman 174-pounder Jeff Wright (Rock/Escanaba High School) and sophomore heavyweight Ryan Tiseo (Washington Romeo High School) were fourth. Freshman 157-pounder Ken Andrews (Swartz Creek High School) was fifth and sophomore 184-pounder Todd Miller (Casnovia/Kent City High School) was sixth.
