Wrestling Team Finishes in Second Place at the Mid-States Wrestling Tournament at Manchester
The Olivet College wrestling team finished in second place out of seven teams today at the Mid-States Wrestling Tournament hosted by Manchester College. Manchester won the team championship with 171 points and the Fighting Comets had 138.5 points.
NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- The Olivet College wrestling team finished in second place out of seven teams today at the Mid-States Wrestling Tournament hosted by Manchester College. Manchester won the team championship with 171 points and the Fighting Comets had 138.5 points.
Leading the way for Olivet was freshman 197-pounder Justin Torres (Holly High School), who the championship at his weight class. Torres also received the Most Falls in Least Time Award. He had three pins in 8:02, edging Manchester’s Jamie Salazar by 17 seconds.
Freshman 125-pounder Joe Suchowolec (Sand Lake/Grant High School), freshman 157-pounder Ken Andrews (Swartz Creek High School), sophomore 165-pounder Chad Kaiser (Lachine/Alpena High School) and sophomore heavyweight Ryan Tiseo (Washington Romeo High School) finished in second place. Senior Chris Dunham (Nashville/Maple Valley High School) and senior 198-pounder Jason Creager (Grandville High School) were third and freshman 133-pounder Shawn Parker (Inkster/John Glenn High School) was fourth. Junior 141-pounder Mike Storer (Bloomfield Hills/Lasher High School) and freshman 174-pounder Jeff Wright (Rock/ Escanaba High School) finished in fifth place.
The Fighting Comet second-teamers were also successful. Sophomore 197-pounder Ahmad Zeaiter (Kalamazoo/Portage Northern High School) was fourth. Senior 165-pounder Les Schoonover (LaGrange, Ind./Lakeland High School), freshman 184-pounder Ryan Newberry (South Haven High School) and freshman heavyweight Mike Martinez (Lansing) were fifth and sophomore 157-pounder Jesse Grenillo (Holly High School) was sixth.
Olivet will next wrestle on Saturday, Feb. 22 when it travels to Ada, Ohio to participate in the Ohio Northern University Duals.
