Women’s lacrosse team loses to Davenport, 14-4
The Olivet College women’s lacrosse team fell to Davenport University, 14-4, today at the DU Turf Field in Grand Rapids.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College women's lacrosse team fell to Davenport University, 14-4, today at the DU Turf Field in Grand Rapids.
Freshman Geri Merrell (Battle Creek/Lakeview) put the Comets ahead 1-0 with her 30th goal of the season and that would be their only lead of the game. The Panthers scored three straight goals to go up 3-1. Twice, Olivet would trim its deficit to one point, but each time Davenport had answer.
The Panthers ended the half on a 3-0 run and stretched that run to 8-0 in the first 20 minutes of the second half to take a 12-3 lead. The Comets would score another goal before Davenport found the back of the next the last two times in the game.
Freshman Taylor Guarnaccia (East Lansing/Haslett) scored two goals to lead Olivet. Merrell and senior Nicole Wernette (Remus/Chippewa Hills) each scored once. Merrell took a game-high nine shots, while Guarnaccia had six. Between the pipes, freshman Sarah Shaw (Grand Haven) faced 35 shots and made 13 saves.
The Comets are now off until next Wednesday, April 11, when they host Albion College. Game time at the Cutler Athletic Complex is 4 p.m.
