Women's golf team finishes in 11th-place at NCAA DIII National Championships

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Olivet College women's golf team has finished in 11th-place at the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships at the Mission Inn Resort's El Campeon Golf Course in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
The Comets posted a four-round total of 334 strokes to give them a four-round total 1,341 strokes. Carthage (Wis.) College was 11 strokes ahead of Olivet at 1,330, while the Comets were 19 ahead of 12th-place University of St. Thomas (Minn.)
Rhodes (Tenn.) College won its first NCAA championship with a four-round total of 1,256 strokes. 2013 NCAA champion University of Mary Hardin Baylor was second at 1,280, followed by Williams (Mass.) College, 1,285, and University of Texas at Tyler, 1,291. Ithaca (N.Y.) College and Methodist (N.C.) University tied for fifth-place with 1,298s.
Senior Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) recorded an 81 for third time at the championships, which gives her a four-round total of 326 strokes. Damico's total also placed her in a tie for 27th in the player standings. Sophomore Brooke Kastamo (Howell/Hartland) had her best round of the championships today with an 83 for a 341 four-round total.
Senior Adrienne Plourde (Livonia/Redford Thurston) shot an 86 in the fourth round to end her championships with a four-round total of 342 strokes. Sophomore Casey Lamp (Kalamazoo/Hackett) carded an 84 in today's fourth round to record a 343 for the championships. Senior Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) posted a fourth-round score of 96 strokes to finish with a four-day total of 355 strokes.
The third round was suspended Thursday night because of darkness and then was completed this morning. Olivet posted a tournament-best 330 team score. The Comets were led by Plourde, who shot a seven-over par 79. Damico was two strokes behind with an 81. Stark had a team-leading four birdies en route to an 82. Kastamo completed her third round in 88 strokes. Lamp finished with an 89.
