The Olivet College women’s golf team sits in 10th-place after the first round of the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships, which is being held at the El Campeon Golf Course and inside the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Olivet College women's golf team sits in 10th-place after the first round of the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships, which is being held at the El Campeon Golf Course and inside the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
The Comets posted a 333 team score, which was the lowest score from the morning wave of 12 teams. Williams (Mass.) College is only three strokes ahead of Olivet in ninth-place with a 330. DePauw (Ind.) University and George Fox (Ore.) University are tied for seventh with 328s. Rhodes (Tenn.) College leads the 21-team field with a 311.
The Comets are led by senior Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland), who carded an 81. Starting on the back nine, she birdied her second hole before dropping a double bogie on her fourth hole and then completing the back nine with two more bogies for a 39. Damico then had four pars, four bogies and a double bogie on the front nine for a 42.
Senior Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) was next with an 82. After going eight over on the back nine, she had only two bogies on the front nine, including six straight pars to finish her round. Sophomore Casey Lamp (Kalamazoo/Hackett Catholic) finished with an 84. She started her round two straight double bogies, followed by three straight bogies before finishing the front nine with four straight pars for a 43. Lamp completed the front nine with a birdie, three pars, four bogies and a double bogie for a 41.
Senior Adrienne Plourde (Livonia/Redford Thurston) and sophomore Brooke Kastamo (Howell/Hartland) both shot an 86. Plourde had a 46 on the back nine before shooting a 40 on the front nine, with five pars and four bogies. Kastamo also got off to a rough start, finishing with a 45 on the front nine before bouncing back to score a 41 on the front nine.
