Women’s golf team places seventh at IWU Spring Fling

NORMAL, Ill. – The Olivet College women's golf team placed seventh at the 2014 Illinois Wesleyan University Spring Fling, held at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.

After the carding a 348 team score in Saturday's first round, the Comets lowered their total by 25 strokes today with a 323, which gave them a two-round score of 671. Washington University-St. Louis (Mo.) captured the team title with a 622 (319-303). DePauw (Ind.) University took second at 625 (325-300), while the host Titans were third with a 626 (322-304). The rest of the top six were University of Wis.-Stout, 654 (334-320); Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) College, 660 (331-329); and North Central (Ill.) College, 665 (343-322).

Senior Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) and sophomore Casey Lamp (Kalamazoo/Hackett Catholic) improved the most for Olivet in today's round, with both dropping 10 strokes off their first-round totals. Damico had Olivet's best second-round score with a 77 and two-round total of 164 strokes. Lamp finished today's round in 79 strokes, which included three birdies on the back nine. The score gave her a two-round total of 168 strokes. 

Senior Adrienne Plourde (Livonia/Redford Thurston) completed today's round in 82 strokes to give her a two-round total of 170 strokes. Overall, senior Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) was one stroke behind with a two-day score of 171 strokes.  Sophomore Brooke Kastamo (Hartland) dropped three strokes off her first-round score with an 85 in today's round, which allows her to have a two-round score of 173.

Olivet will now focus on the three-round MIAA Playoff, which will determine the league's automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships. The first round will be played Wednesday at the Blackthorn Golf Course in South Bend, Ind. The last two rounds will be played on the Comets' home course, The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall, on Saturday, April 26 and Monday, April 28.
