Women’s golf team moves up to seventh-place at Wash U Spring Invitational
The Olivet College women’s golf team moved up to a seventh-place finish at the Third Annual Washington (Mo.) University Spring Invitational. Individually, senior Adrienne Plourde tied for 10th-place to earn a spot on the all-tournament team
MADISON, Ill. – The Olivet College women's golf team moved up to a seventh-place finish at the Third Annual Washington (Mo.) University Spring Invitational, played at the Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Ill. Among the 16 teams in the field, 10 were nationally-ranked. Individually, senior Adrienne Plourde (Livonia/Redford Thurston) tied for 10th-place in the player standings with a 153 to earn a spot on the all-tournament team.
After posting a 331 team score in Saturday's first round, the Comets improved by 19 strokes to day to give them a two-round total of 643 strokes. NAIA ranked No. 6 William Woods (Mo.) University came back to nip the host Bears, who are ranked No. 1 in the Division III Women's Golf Coaches Association poll, by one stroke, 605-606, for the team championship.
No. 9 Rhodes (Tenn.) College took third with a 623, while No. 6 DePauw (Ind.) University and No. 21 Carleton (Minn.) College shared fourth-place with 628s. No. 19 Carthage (Wis.) College edged Olivet by one stroke for sixth with a 642.
Plourde surged ahead in the leaderboard by posting a 75 in today's round, which tied for the second-lowest second-round score. Senior Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) dropped eight strokes from her first-round total to have a two-round score of 162 (84-78) strokes. Sophomore Brooke Kastamo (Hartland) had a 163 (82-81). Sophomore Casey Lamp (Kalamazoo/Hackett Catholic) improved the most for Olivet, lowering her score today by 10 strokes to give her a 166 (88-78). Senior Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) completed her two rounds in 171 (87-84) strokes.
The Comets travel to Normal, Ill., next Saturday and Sunday, April 12-13, to participate in the Illinois Wesleyan Spring Fling at the Ironwood Golf Course. Both rounds will have a 9 a.m. CST shotgun start.
