Women’s golfers finish in eighth-place at Jekyll Island Collegiate Classic
The Olivet College women’s golf team has finished in eighth-place at the 2014 Jekyll Island Collegiate Classic, hosted by Oglethorpe University and played on the Indian Mound Golf Course in Jekyll Island, Ga.
JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The Olivet College women's golf team has finished in eighth-place at the 2014 Jekyll Island Collegiate Classic, hosted by Oglethorpe University and played on the Indian Mound Golf Course in Jekyll Island, Ga.
The No. 7 Comets had a 325 in today's round, and posted a three-round total of 977 strokes. The eighth-place equals last year's finish at the Jekyll Island Classic, while the 977 total is 13 strokes better than last year's score.
No. 17 Claremont Mudd Scripps (Calif.) University won the team title with a 943, including a tournament-best 302 in today's round. Claremont entered the round 12 strokes behind No. 6 University of Texas at Tyler, who finished second at 946. No. 11 Rhodes (Tenn.) College was third at 951, followed by No. 8 Mary Hardin-Baylor (Tex.) University, 955; No. 1 Methodist (N.C.) University, 958; No. 23 Southwestern (Tex.) University, 970; and No. 10 Trinity (Tex.) University, 973.
Sophomore Casey Lamp (Kalamazoo/Hackett Catholic) saved her best round of the tournament for the last, as she also posted the team's best round of the tournament with a five-over par 77. The 77 was 20 strokes better than her second round score and eight strokes better than her first round score to give her a three-round total of 259 strokes.
Senior Adrienne Plourde (Livonia/Thurston) had Olivet's second-best, third-round score with an 82. The score allows her to post the team's best three-round score at 241 to tie for 18th-place in the player standings. Senior Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) needed 83 strokes to complete her third round and had a three-day total 246 strokes to share 28th-place.
Sophomore Brooke Kastamo (Howell/Hartland) also carded an 83 in today's round, and finished with a three-round score of 252 strokes. Senior Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) completed her third round in 90 strokes to have a three-round total of 254 strokes.
The Comets are now off until Saturday and Sunday, April 5-6, at the Washington (Mo.) University Invitational. The tournament will be played at the Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Ill.
