Women’s golf team stays in seventh-place at Jekyll Island Collegiate Classic

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The Olivet College women's golf team stays in seventh-place after two rounds of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Classic, hosted by Oglethorpe University and at the Indian Mound Golf Course in Jekyll Island, Ga. The field includes nine schools, which are ranked in the Top 15 of the Golfstat.com rankings.

After shooting a 331 team score in Friday's round, the No. 7 Comets went 10 strokes better today for a two-round total of 652 strokes, which is only two strokes behind No. 23 Southwestern (Tex.) University. The top five teams are No. 6 University of Texas at Tyler, 629; No. 11 Rhodes (Tenn.) College,  633; No. 8 Mary Hardin-Baylor (Tex.) University, 637; No. 17 Claremont Mudd Scripps (Calif.) University, 641; and No. 1 Methodist (N.C.) University, 642.

Senior Adrienne Plourde (Livonia/Thurston) has the Comets' best two-round score of 159 strokes, including an 81 in today's round. Today, senior Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) carded an 81 and now has a two-round total of 163 strokes. She had two birdies during today's round to go along with nine pars, three bogies and three double bogies.

After carding an 86 in the first round, senior Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) had the best second-round score for the Comets, 78, which was eight strokes better than her first round and gives her a two-round total of 164 strokes. In today's round, she had two birdies, 11 pars, three bogies and two double bogies.  

Sophomore Brooke Kastamo (Howell/Hartland) had an 87 in the first round before improving by seven strokes today with an 81 for a two-round total of 168. Sophomore Casey Lamp (Kalamazoo/Hackett Catholic) had a 97 in today's round to give her a two-round total of 172 strokes.

The third and final round starts tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
