Women’s golfers capture team title at MIAA Jamboree #4, push overall lead to 52 strokes
The Olivet College women’s golf team captured the team title at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree #4 today at the Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Indiana. The Comets won the four league jamborees and now lead the overall standings by 52 strokes.
ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College women's golf team captured the team title at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree #4 today at the Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Indiana. The Comets won the four league jamborees and now lead the overall standings by 52 strokes.
In today's round, Olivet posted a 320 team score to beat second-place Saint Mary's (Ind.) College by nine strokes. Calvin and Hope tied for third-place with 341s. Trine was fifth at 344, followed by Adrian, 347; Alma, 374; Albion, 389; and Kalamazoo, 405. Calvin's Carlia Canto was the medalist with a one-over-par 73.
Senior Adrienne Plourde paced the Comets and was second in the player standings with a three-over-par 75. Her round featured two birdies, 11 pars and five bogeys. Senior Theresa Damico placed sixth with a 79. Sophomore Brooke Kastamo finished her round in 81 strokes, while sophomore Casey Lamp had an 85. Sophomore Kirstin Langer had 43s on the front and back nines for an 86. Senior Ashley Stark and freshman Allyson Schultz both played as an individual, and carded an 80 and 92, respectively.
After four MIAA rounds, Olivet leads the overall standings with 1,294 total strokes. Saint Mary's is a distant second at 1,346 strokes, and Calvin is third at 1,385 strokes. Only one stroke separates fourth-place Hope and fifth-place Trine, 1,414-1,415.
The final two rounds of the season will be played next Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11-12, at Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek. The Comets are serving as the host school for the season-finale tournament.
