OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's golf team is ranked No. 7 in the first Golfstat.com poll for the 2013-14 season. The rankings are all statistical based, with your head-to-head results against fellow NCAA Division III schools being one of the largest determinants.
The Comets have finished in second-place at each of their first three tournaments this season. At the season-opening Labor Day Tee-Off Tournament, Olivet placed behind No. 6 Washington University of St. Louis. A week later at their own fall invitational, the Comets were right behind NAIA foe Bethel (Ind.) College. This week at the O'Brien National Invitational, Olivet was second after tournament champion No. 5 DePauw (Ind.) University.
At those tournaments, the Comets have beaten five ranked teams, Washington University, Centre (Ky.) College, George Fox (Oregon) University, Illinois Wesleyan University and Wittenberg (Ohio) University.
Olivet has now turned its focus to defending their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) championship. The first of six league rounds will be played next Tuesday, Sept. 24, at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall, starting at 1 p.m. The Comets have won five of the last seven MIAA titles and are looking for their third straight in 2013.
