Women’s golf team in second-place at Labor Day Tee-Off Tournament
The Olivet College women’s golf team is in second-place after the first day of the 2013 O.C. Labor Day Tee-Off Tournament at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall.
MARSHALL, Mich. – The Olivet College women's golf team is in second-place after the first day of the 2013 O.C. Labor Day Tee-Off Tournament at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall. Among the eight teams in the field, four teams are ranked in the Top 25 of the 2013-14 Golf World Preseason Coaches' Poll, and another three teams are receiving votes in the poll.
The Comets, ranked No. 17 in the poll, posted a 315 team score, which ties for the sixth-best 18-hole team score in school history and the all-time best round at The Medalist. No. 2 Washington University in St. Louis leads the field with a 308. Saint Mary's (Ind.) College is third at 338, followed by No. 14 Wittenberg (Ohio) University, 342; No. 9 Illinois Wesleyan University, 343; Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University, 343; Franklin (Ind.) College, 347; and Adrian College, 357.
Olivet senior Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) and Olivia Lugar from Washington are tied for first-place in the player standings with two-over par 74s. Damico's round featured a tournament-best four birdies to go along with eight pars and six bogies.
Senior Adrienne Plourde (Livonia/Redford Thurston) was three strokes behind at 77. She had three birdies. Senior Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) carded an 81. Sophomore Casey Lamp (Kalamazoo/Hackett Catholic) completed her round in 83 strokes and sophomore Brooke Kastamo (Howell/Hartland) was right behind with an 85.
Playing as individual scorer, sophomore Kirstin Langer (Battle Creek/Pennfield) shot a career-best 79. Freshmen Allyson Schultz (Traverse City/Central) and Laura Bacso (Trenton) posted an 88 and 104, respectively in their first-ever collegiate rounds.
Tomorrow's second round gets under way with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
