Women’s golf ties for 10th at DIII National Championships
The women’s golf team tied for 10th-place at the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championships. The Comets completed their fourth round this morning. With just a few holes left to be played by the leaders, a massive band of lightning and thunderstorms rolled through the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort.
HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Olivet College women's golf team tied for 10th-place at the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championships. The Comets completed their fourth round this morning. With just a few holes left to be played by the leaders, a massive band of lightning and thunderstorms rolled through the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort. The result caused the final round to be cancelled and according to NCAA by-laws, the final results are based entirely how Thursday's third round concluded.
Ranked No. 12 in the Golfstat.com rankings, the Comets had a 333 in today's round, but their official score will be 1,016 strokes to tie third-ranked University of Wis.-Eau Claire. Methodist (N.C.) University captured its 14th consecutive national championship with a 966 (318-319-329).
The Comets' individual scores are also wiped off the board. Junior Lauren Campbell (Fenton) shot a three-over par 76 with a round featuring 11 pars, four bogeys and one birdie. Freshman Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) recorded her best round of the tournament with an 83.
In their final rounds of collegiate golf, seniors Amber Conrad (Battle Creek/ Harper Creek) and Abby Wheeler (Grayling) had an 86 and 89, respectively. Freshman Adrienne Jones (Redford/Thurston) recorded an 88.
Conrad tied for 19th in the player standings with a total of 248 (84-82-82) strokes. Campbell was next in a three-way tie for 26th with a 251 (84-84-83), followed by Wheeler 261 (87-90-84), Jones 262 (90-78-94) and Damico 273 (95-87-91).
