Women’s golf team ranked in national Top 10

The Olivet College women's golf team is ranked in the Top 10 nationally, according to the Web site golfstat.com. The Comets are No. 9 in the NCAA Division III Head-to-Head rankings released Oct. 14. In addition, the Comets are fifth in Par 4 scoring (4.60) and 10th in Par 3 scoring (3.48). In the latest Golf World/NGCA Coaches Poll, Olivet is No. 10.

The Comets wrapped-up their fall season with a runner-up finish in the final 2009 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings. Individually, junior Amber Conrad (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) and senior Megan Rimmel (Ithaca) earned first-team All-MIAA honors, while sophomore Lauren Campbell (Fenton) and junior Abby Wheeler (Grayling) earned second-team honors. Rimmel is No. 7 in the golfstat.com player rankings.

Under the direction of Head Coach Bill Maas, Olivet will compete in a three-round spring league qualifiying tournament with the winner earning the MIAA's automatic berth to the 2010 NCAA Division III National Championships May 11-14 at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. Even if the Comets do not earn the automatic bid, they have a chance to receive an at-large bid.
