Women’s golf team advances to NCAA Division III Nationals for second straight year
The Olivet College women’s golf team has punched its ticket to the NCAA Division III National Championships for the second straight season.
The Olivet College women's golf team has punched its ticket to the NCAA Division III National Championships for the second straight season. The Comets placed second by one stroke at the third round of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) playoffs today, which was played at the Medalist Golf Club in Marshall.
The one-stroke difference was enough to hold off Saint Mary's (Ind.) College by 14 strokes, 1,012-1,026. The Belles won today's third round with a 342 team score, followed by Olivet at 343.
In today's round, sophomore Megan Rimmel (Ithaca) led the Comets with a MIAA course-record 80 to earn medalist honors. Junior Trisha McKim (DeWitt) tied for fifth-place in the player standings with an 86. Senior Amanda Sanders (Concord) was one stroke behind with an 87. Junior Lindsay Pipkin (White Lake/Lakeland) posted a 90, followed by freshman Amber Conrad (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) at 91.
The 2008 NCAA Division III National Championships will take place Tuesday-Friday, May 13-16 at the Centennial Acres Golf Club in Waverly, Iowa.
