Women’s golf team moves into sole possession of second-place in MIAA standings

The Olivet College women’s golf team stands in second-place after the first round of the 2004 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women’s Golf Championships at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek. The Lady Comets have moved into sole possession of second-place in the MIAA standings with a 346.3 average entering Saturday’s final round.

The Lady Comets tallied a team score of 342 strokes to finish 12 strokes ahead of Albion College. Olivet and Albion entered play today tied for second in the MIAA standings. Saint Mary’s fired a 321 lead to increase its lead in the standings to 68 strokes.

Individually, sophomore Stephanie Nicolai (Shelbyville/Wayland Union High School) leads the way for the Comets with an 82. Also shooting in the 80s for Olivet was sophomore Kristy Latimer (Battle Creek/Harper Creek High School) and freshman Jennifer Lambarth (Saline High School) with an 83 and 84, respectively.

Junior Katie Edick (Charlotte High School) had a 93, freshman Stephanie Pott (Kalamazoo Mattawan High School) was next with a 96 and freshman Amanda Sanders (Concord High School) rounded out the Comet starting six with a 97.

Sophomore Lindsey Struble (Battle Creek/Harper Creek High School) competed as an individual and fired a 93. Junior Wendy Mickelwait (Middleville/Thornapple Kellogg High School) also played as individual and shot a 97.

Entering tomorrow’s final round, Lambarth and Latimer stand fourth and fifth, respectively, in the MIAA seasonal standings. Lambarth has an 83.8 stroke average while Latimer has an 84.0 average. The top six golfers will earn first-team All-MIAA honors.
