Women's golf team shatters school record with second-place finish at Jon Spiess Memorial Invitational
The Olivet College women’s golf team shattered the school record total with a team total of 330 strokes today, and the Lady Comets finished in second-place at the Defiance (Ohio) College/Jon Spiess Memorial Invitational at the Ironwood Golf Course in Wauseon, Ohio.
The Olivet College women’s golf team shattered the school record total with a team total of 330 strokes today, and the Lady Comets finished in second-place at the Defiance (Ohio) College/Jon Spiess Memorial Invitational at the Ironwood Golf Course in Wauseon, Ohio. The previous school record was a 342 at the Ferris State University (FSU) Invitational on Sept. 5.
Individually, sophomore Kristy Latimer (Battle Creek/Harper Creek High School) shot a 78. She broke her own school record of 81 strokes, which was also previously set at the FSU Invitational.
The Lady Comets finished just two strokes behind NCAA Division II foe University of Findlay (Ohio). Ohio Northern University was third with a 353, followed by Adrian College with a 418.
Following Latimer was freshman Jennifer Lambrath (Saline High School) with an 80, junior Katie Edick (Charlotte High School) with an 84, junior Wendy Mickelwait (Middleville/Thornapple Kellogg High School) with an 88 and freshman Stephanie Pott (Kalamazoo Mattawan High School) with a 91.
Latimer, Lambarth and Edick were named to the all-tournament team.
Freshman Amanda Sanders (Concord High School) and sophomore Lindsey Struble (Battle Creek/Harper Creek High School) competed as individuals and finished with scores of 86 and 94, respectively.
Olivet is next in action when it hosts the 2004 Lady Comets Fall Invitational this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 17-18, at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall.
