Hatfield scores career-high 23 points, UOlivet falls to Transylvania, 61-45

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior Kinsley Hatfield scored a career-high 23 points, but The University of Olivet women's basketball team fell to the host Pioneers in the opening game of the Gratz Park Private Wealth Holiday Tournament. Transylvania (Ky.) University hosted the tournament inside the Clive M. Beck Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pioneers led 5-2 at the 5:56 mark of the first quarter. The Comets responded with a 10-3 run over the next four minutes to gain a four-point cushion. Transylvania netted the next four points to even the score. Freshman Peyton Tennant split two free throws to put Olivet ahead briefly, as the Pioneers drained a three-pointer to take a 15-13 lead at the end of the first period.
- Transylvania extended its lead to five points before a 4-0 Comet spurt closed the gap to a single point. The Pioneers ended the quarter with a 16-7 run to lead by 10 points, 36-26, at the intermission.
- In the third quarter, Transylvania outscored Olivet, 12-5, to hold a 48-31 advantage at the start of the final quarter. The Comets fought back to trim their deficit down to as few as 11 points, 52-41, at the 5:44 mark. Olivet did not get any closer for the remainder of the game.
FOR THE COMETS
- Hatfield made 10-of-19 baskets, including 1-of-2 from behind the arc, and 2-of-3 free throws for her 23 points. Hatfield's previous high was 17 points in the Comets' season-opener against Bluffton (Ohio) University.
- Freshmen Madelyn Burdis and Ava Lord each scored eight points.
- Burdis, Hatfield and Tennant grabbed seven rebounds apiece.
- Lord and Gohsman dished out six and five assists, respectively.
UP NEXT
- The Comets will now play Worcester State University (Mass.) University in the consolation game of the tournament tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. Spalding University (Ky.) defeated Worcester State, 66-42, in the other first round game.
