Women’s basketball team remains at No. 8 in NCAA regional rankings
The Olivet College women’s basketball team remains at No. 8 in the NCAA Division III regional rankings.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's basketball team remains at No. 8 in the latest NCAA Division III regional rankings. The Comets are part of the Great Lakes region.
Defending NCAA Division III national champion and North Coast Athletic Conference leader DePauw (Ind.) University is No. 1 with a 24-0 record. Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association leader Hope College sits at No. 2, while President's Athletic Conference leader Thomas More (Ky.) College is No. 3. Hope and Thomas More each have a 23-0 record.
Three Ohio Athletic Conference schools -- Ohio Northern, Baldwin Wallace and John Carroll universities – are No. 4, 5 and 6, respectively. Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference frontrunner Transylvania (Ky.) University is ranked No. 7.
The NCAA will release a third set of regional rankings next Wednesday, Feb. 26. A fourth set of rankings will then be used to determine the field for the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships. Teams included in the regional rankings are not guaranteed a spot in the field.
In addition, the Comets climbed to No. 18 in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. Olivet also moved into the USA Today Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll at No. 23. This marks the first time in school history the Comets are ranked in both the D3hoops.com and WBCA polls.
