The Olivet College women's basketball team participated in the Women's Basketball Coaches Associaton (WBCA) Pink Zone® at its home game Wednesday, Feb. 10 against Adrian College. For the day, the Olivet junior varsity and varsity players wore pink uniforms.
Each of the players had a sponsor for their uniform, which was in honor of someone who has been affected by cancer. The Olivet women will also wear these uniforms at their game tomorrow at Alma College and next Wednesday at Saint Mary's (Ind.) College.
The WBCA Pink Zone® is a global, unified effort for the WBCA nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The WBCA began the Pink Zone®, formerly known as "Think Pink", in 2007. Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach, served as the catalyst for the initiative after her third reoccurrence of breast cancer in 2006. The 2009 campaign raised over $1.3 million, reached over 912,000 fans and unified more than 1,600 participating teams and organizations. The WBCA's charity of choice is the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund®, in partnership with The V Foundation.
