The Olivet College women's basketball team failed to score down the stretch in each half and fell to Adrian College, 65-56, today at the Merillat Center in Adrian.
For most of the first half, neither team led by more than five points. The Comets' (6-6, 3-2 MIAA) biggest lead was two points at the 6:50 mark. Olivet held a 27-26 lead with 2:52 remaining in the opening half, but the Bulldogs (7-6, 2-4 MIAA) closed the half with an 8-0 run to take a 34-27 into the locker rooms.
Adrian stretched its lead to as many as 12 points, 41-29, at the 14:38 mark of the second half. The Comets came back and took a 56-55 lead with just under two minutes left. In the final two minutes, the Bulldogs made eight free throws and a layup in a 10-0 spurt to end the game.
Senior Audrey Graham (Battle Creek/Lakeview) recorded season-highs of 26 points and nine rebounds to lead Olivet. Junior Jaime Kowalczyk (Wyandotte/Roosevelt) joined her in double figures with 13 points.
Eleven different Bulldogs scored at least two points and their bench outscored Olivet's, 28-6. Nichole Roose led the way with 11 points, followed by Ashley McClarren added 10. Kim Olech grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Comets will be back in action Wednesday, Jan. 10 when they host Hope College at 7:30 p.m.
