The Timberwolves (4-7) led by as many as nine points in the first half and eventually led 30-27 at halftime. The Comets (7-5) opened the second half with a 12-3 run to take a 35-33 lead at the 15:28 mark. Northwood answered with a run and took a 15-point lead twice. Olivet trimmed its deficit to seven points, 60-53, with 3:26 left.
Juniors Audrey Graham (Battle Creek/Lakeview) and Courtney Ivan (Belleville) topped the Comets with 13 points each. Ivan grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Three bench players reached double figures for the Timberwolves. Katie Gonta had a game-high 14 points, followed by Natasa Nikic and Sara Bilunes with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Danielle Lapeer was also a spark off the bench with eight rebounds.
Olivet resumes Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play Thursday, Jan. 5, at Saint Mary's (Ind.) College at 7:30 p.m.
