UOlivet loses twice at Saint Mary’s

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Olivet softball team lost in both games of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader, 8-0 and 11-1, to Saint Mary's (Ind.) College today at Purcell Athletic Field.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Belles scored one run in the second inning, added three runs in the third and scored their final four runs in the fifth.
- Olivet tallied two hits – singles by freshman Mia Thurman and junior Kaitlyn Witkowski. Witkowski stole two bases. Freshman Elliott Jarvi was charged with the pitching loss after allowing seven runs on four hits and four walks over four and one-third innings.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Saint Mary's pushed across two runs in both the third and fourth innings before erupting for seven runs at the top of the sixth. The Comets scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth. Junior Haylie Wenke singled through the left side of the infield, and Thurman hit an RBI-double to score Wenke.
- For the game, Olivet totaled seven hits. Thurman went 2-for-2 with two doubles. Senior Corina Hernandez was 2-for-3. Senior Shaelyn Lampinen also hit a double. Sophomore Alisha Gahn recorded the pitching loss after surrendering eight runs (six earned) on eight hits and six walks over the first five innings in the circle.

- Olivet travels to play Oberlin (Ohio) College next Wednesday, April 15, for a rescheduled doubleheader. The first pitch from game one is set for 3 p.m.
