ADRIAN, Mich. – The Olivet College softball team dropped both games of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader today at Adrian College. The Bulldogs won the opener 5-1 and then took the nightcap, 10-5.
In the first game, Adrian pushed across four runs in the first inning and two more runs in the fifth to claim a 6-0 lead. The Comets broke up the shutout and no-hitter with a single run in the seventh. Senior Marlene Packer doubled to lead off the inning. After two outs were recorded, junior Lauren Lenard lined a single up the middle to score Packer.
Olivet was held to those two hits and a single by senior Lindsey Maas. Sophomore Jessica Duell was the losing pitcher, as she allowed the six runs on eight hits.
Like the first game, the Bulldogs plated four runs in the first inning of the second game, too. They added another run in the second for a 5-0 lead. The Comets trimmed their deficit to 5-3 with three runs in the last half of the third. Olivet had five consecutive singles to score the runs.
Adrian pushed its lead back to four at 7-3 with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings and broke the game open with three runs in the sixth for a 10-3 lead. The Comets got two runs back in the bottom half of the sixth but it was not enough.
Olivet finished the game with 10 hits, including two for Lenard and freshman Amanda George. George and freshman Lorren Springer scored two runs apiece, while junior Terri Hurosky had two RBI. Freshman Maddie Siebenmark gave up five earned runs on 12 hits in the complete game pitching performance.
The Comets will close out the MIAA portion of its schedule tomorrow with a home doubleheader against Kalamazoo College. First pitch from game at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet is 1 p.m.
