Softball team loses two games at Calvin, 17-4 and 13-5
The Olivet College softball team lost both games of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader to Calvin College, 17-4 and 13-5, this afternoon at the Gainey Field in Grand Rapids.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College softball team lost both games of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader to Calvin College, 17-4 and 13-5, this afternoon at the Gainey Field in Grand Rapids.
In game one, Olivet scored a run in the first inning when freshman Lorren Springer (White Pigeon/Constantine) sprinted home on a double steal attempt with runners on first and third base. The Knights answered with six runs in the bottom half of the first.
The Comets got two runs back in the third inning on a RBI-single by junior Lauren Lenard (Dimondale/Lansing Catholic) and bases-loaded walk by junior Terri Hurosky (Nashville/Maple Valley). Calvin came right back with eight runs in the last part of the inning to put the game out of reach. The Knights capped their scoring with a three-run fourth inning. Olivet scored its final run in the on a RBI-groundout by Lenard.
For the game, the Comets had five hits. Senior Marlene Packer (Grand Rapids/Creston) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a double. Springer also scored twice. Sophomore Jessica Duell (Ionia) threw the first two and two-thirds innings to suffer the pitching loss. Freshman Maddie Siebenmark (Bridgman) tossed the final an inning and one-third.
In game two, Calvin plated two runs in the top half of the second. Olivet came right back and tied the game at 2-2 on back-to-back base hits by Siebenmark and senior Alison Iuelle (Kentwood/Kelloggsville). The Knights took the lead back with four runs in both the third and fourth innings to take a 10-2 lead.
The Comets pushed across three runs in the bottom half of the fourth. Calvin got those runs with a single tally in the sixth and two runs in the seventh for the final 13-4 score.
Olivet had six hits in the game. Siebenmark led the way, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. Hurosky reached base safely in all three of her plate appearances, twice on walks and once on a single. She and freshman Chelsea Luedtke (Millington) each scored two runs. Siebenmark was also charged with the pitching loss. She gave up only three earned runs on nine hits, as the Comet defense committed a season-high eight errors.
Olivet is scheduled to make the trip to play a doubleheader at Saint Mary's (Ind.) College tomorrow afternoon, starting at 1 p.m.
