Cross country teams compete at Lansing CC Invitational
The Olivet College cross country teams participated in the annual Lansing Community College Invitational this afternoon at Grand Woods Park in Lansing. The women’s team placed eighth out of 11 schools, while the men’s team was 12th of 14 schools.
The Olivet College cross country teams participated in the annual Lansing Community College Invitational this afternoon at Grand Woods Park in Lansing. The women's team placed eighth out of 11 schools, while the men's team was 12th of 14 schools.
In the women's 5K race, Jessica Petkus (Milford) was the Comets' highest finisher, as she covered the course in 21:49. Contributing to Olivet's team score were Amy Johnson (Gaylord), 22:04; Jessica Woods (Climax/Climax-Scotts), 22:41; Alisha Fisher (Battle Creek/Lakeview), 23:13; and Anna Braner (Belmond, Iowa/Marshall), 23:32. Also running for Olivet was Kacie Rosecrants (Parma/Western), 23:46; Veronica Maidens (Arcadia/Onekama), 24:34; Tonya Price (Bangor), 25:43; and Christine Cameron (Elkhart, Ind./Concord), :26.37.
Daniel Slocum (Potterville) paced the Comets in the 8K men's race, finishing the course in 30:31. The rest of the contributors to the men's team score were Thomas Giles (Gobles), 31:03; Matt Swain (Union City), 31:50; Serafin Llerena (Bangor), 31:56; and Josh Osborne (Mancelona), 33:35. Other Olivet men competing in the invitational were Yury Bylina (Minsk, Belarus), 34:03; Greg Jarratt (Centreville), 34:58; Alex Braner (Belmond, Iowa/Marshall), 37:50; and Brian Jaffee (Bowling Green, Ohio), 37:53.
The Comets' next meet is Friday, Oct. 5, when they run in the Michigan Intercollegiate. Oakland University is hosting the meet at the Katke-Cousins Golf Course.
