CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Olivet College freshman Will Mensching has been named the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) Co-Defensive Player of the Week. History is made with the selection, as Mensching is the first Olivet player in school history to earn MCVL Player of the Week honors.
Playing libero for the first time in last Saturday's matches against Wittenberg (Ohio) University, Mensching averaged 4.3 digs per set. In the first match against the Tigers, he broke the single-match school record with 19 digs.
"We are very thrilled for Will to achieve this honor," said Olivet head men's volleyball coach Luke DeWitt. "As a freshman, he was asked to step into the new role for our team and did a great job. His efforts helped us secure our first win of the season. Will also has a lot of potential going forward and we are excited to see what he can do for our team."
