Men’s track & field: Comets place sixth at 124th MIAA Field Day
Led by 1-2 finish in the 800-meter run, the Olivet College men’s track & field team placed sixth at the 124th Annual MIAA Field Day, held at Albion College’s Elkin Isaac Track.
ALBION, Mich. – Led by 1-2 finish in the 800-meter run, the Olivet College men's track & field team placed sixth at the 124th Annual Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day, held at Albion College's Elkin Isaac Track.
The men collected 45.50 points to finish well ahead of seventh-place Alma, who had only six points. Calvin won the team title with 224 points, followed by Trine (Ind.), 182.50; Hope, 136; Adrian, 106; and Albion, 73.
Senior Jalen Weaver successfully defended his MIAA title in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.40. Junior Connor Bauserman crossed the finish line second in 1:53.97, which was just 1/10th faster than the third-place runner from Hope. Ironically, the Olivet duo also placed 1-2 at the 2014 MIAA Field Day.
Senior Andrew Benkovsky was the runner-up finisher in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:23.08. Senior Greg Lutzke scored eighth-place points in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:52.45.
The remaining Comet points in the track events were scored in the two relays. The 4x100 team of freshman Tyler Lassic, sophomore Darren Lumpkin, sophomore Grant Arras and junior Travon Tatum was fourth in 44.13 seconds. The 4x400 quartet of Bauserman, Benkovsky, junior Tyler Britten and Weaver clocked-in at 3:22.22 to also finish in fourth-place.
Sophomore Bryce Prudden posted Olivet's best performance in the field events. He tied for eighth in the high jump, clearing the bar at a season-best mark of six feet and 1/2 inch.
