Ciaravino and Weaver lead indoor track and field teams at Hillsdale Tune-Up
The Olivet College indoor track and field teams participated in the 2014 Hillsdale College Tune-Up today at the Biermann Athletic Center in Hillsdale.
HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Olivet College indoor track and field teams participated in the 2014 Hillsdale College Tune-Up today at the Biermann Athletic Center in Hillsdale.
For the men, junior Jalen Weaver (Albion) finished second in the 800-meter run, as he completed the race in a career-best indoor time of 1:54.58.
Freshman Darren Lumpkin (Pontiac/Oxford) crossed the line in the 60-meter dash with a season-best time of 7.24 seconds, which is also the best time for an Olivet runner this season in the event. He also recorded a season-best in the 200-meter dash at 23.83 seconds.
Freshman Jourdyn Thompson (Lansing/Sexton) ran the 60-meter hurdles in a season-best time of 9.40 seconds.
The 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Connor Bauserman (Battle Creek/Harper Creek), sophomore Tyler Britten (Mendon), Weaver and Thompson posted a season-best time of 3:34.10.
For the women, junior Cassie Ciaravino (Lapeer/East) was the top finisher. She placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.37 seconds. Ciaravino and sophomore Courtney Reed (Battle Creek/Lakeview) both posted season-best times in the 200-meter dash at 28.03 and 28.57 seconds, respectively.
Freshman Marissa Guile (Williamston) had a season-best time of 1:04.12 in the 400-meter dash. Her time was also the best for an Olivet runner this season.
In the field events, sophomore Danielle Hoffman (Parma/Western) cleared the pole vault bar at a season-best height, 2.86 meters/9 feet, 4-1/2 inches, to place seventh. Senior Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) posted season-best performances in the shot put (11.76 meters/38 feet, 7 inches) and weight throw (13.94 meters/45 feet, 9 inches). Her mark in the shot put was 1/2 inch less than the school record.
Olivet participates in its final indoor meet next Saturday, March 1, at Calvin College. Field events get started at 11:30 a.m., followed by running events at approximately 2:15 p.m.
