Men’s and women’s track and field teams compete at IWU Wildcat Invitational
The Olivet College men’s and women’s track and field teams competed today at the 2014 Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcat Invitational in Marion, Ind. The Comets were the only NCAA school to compete, with the remaining schools being NAIA institutions.
MARION, Ind. – The Olivet College men's and women's track and field teams competed today at the 2014 Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcat Invitational in Marion, Ind. The Comets were the only NCAA school to compete, with the remaining schools being NAIA institutions.
For the men, junior Jalen Weaver (Albion) took first-place in the mile run, crossing the finish line in 4:30.63. Freshman Connor Bauserman (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) placed second in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:25.19. Freshman DeQuarius Yore (Battle Creek/Central) had the top performance in the field events, as he threw the shot put 12.25 meters/40 feet, 2-1/4 inches, which was good enough for seventh-place.
For the women, junior Cassie Ciaravino (Lapeer/East) was the top individual finisher in the running events, placing fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.67 seconds. Senior Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) was fifth in the shot put (11.39 meters/37 feet, 4-1/2 inches) and seventh in the weight throw (12.48 meters/40 feet, 11-1/2 inches).
Sophomore Lauren Easton (Jackson/Parma Western) cleared the pole vault bar at 2.58 meters/8 feet, 5-1/2 inches to finish in seventh-place. Senior Rachael Wagner (Clinton Twp./Fraser) was eighth in the high jump at 1.44 meters/4 feet, 8-3/4 inches.
Olivet will participate in the Trine (Ind.) University Don and Reilly Zimmer Indoor Classic next Friday, Jan. 31, starting at 4:30 p.m.
