Indoor track and field teams finish seventh at Trine Invitational
The Olivet College men’s and women’s track and field teams closed out the indoor portion of its schedule today with seventh-place finishes at the Trine (Ind.) University Invitational.
ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College men's and women's track and field teams closed out the indoor portion of its schedule today with seventh-place finishes at the Trine (Ind.) University Invitational. The Comet men had 43 points, which was only 3.5 points behind sixth-place Albion. The women totaled 52 points, and were only six points behind sixth-place Albion.
Men
The men's team was led by sophomore Jalen Weaver (Albion), who took first-place out of 21 runners in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.31. Sophomore Henry Pettway (East Lansing) was fourth in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.24 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay team of Sophomore Billyle Alman (Lansing/Okemos), freshman Demetrius Washington (Berrien Springs), Weaver and senior Trevor Tyler (Roscommon) placed second with a time of 3:28.31.
Pettway turned in Olivet's best performance in the field events with a sixth-place finish in the long jump, as he leaped 6.29 meters / 20 feet, 7¾ inches.
Women
Sophomore Cassie Ciaravino (Lapeer/East) and junior Jenna Mayle (Ionia) scored points in the 60-meter hurdles. Ciaravino was second with a time of 9.60 seconds, while Mayle placed sixth with a time of 10.37 seconds. In the 800-meter run, Mayle broke the school record, crossing the line in 2:35.27.
Ciaravino jumped 5.37 meters / 17 feet, 7½ inches on her first attempt in the long jump, and it held up for the entire competition, giving her the first-place points in the event. Junior Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) had her best throw, 11.71 meters / 38 feet, 5 inches, on her last attempt in the shot put, and it resulted in a second-place finish. Her best throw in the weight throw, 13.26 meters / 43 feet, 6 inches, was also on her last try, and allowed her to finish in fourth-place.
Freshman Danielle Hoffman (Parma/Western) was fourth and broke her own school record in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 2.90 meters / 9 feet, 6¼ inches. Freshman Lauren Easton (Jackson/Parma Western) finished in sixth-place with a 2.75 meters / 9 feet, ¼ inch clearance.
A select number of Olivet athletes may participate in a last chance meet next Friday.
