Indoor track and field teams compete at SVSU Indoor Classic
The Olivet College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed today at the Saginaw Valley State University Indoor Classic at the Ryder Center in University Center.
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed today at the Saginaw Valley State University Indoor Classic at the Ryder Center in University Center.
The men were led by freshman Henry Pettway (East Lansing), who edged teammate and senior James Williams (Battle Creek/Central) for first-place in the 60-meter dash. Pettway crossed the line in 7.22 seconds, while Williams was one-hundredth of a second behind at 7.23 seconds. During the prelims, Pettway finished in 7.23 seconds, and Williams had a time of 7.31 seconds.
On the track, the women were led by sophomore Becca Gaarde (Parma/Western). She finished in third-place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.61 seconds. In the field events, sophomore Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) was second in the weight throw (school record 43'9") and fifth in the shot put (33'5.25").
"We had some strong performances tonight," said Olivet Women's Coach Karen Lutzke. "It was nice to be back competing."
Olivet is next in action Friday, Jan. 27 when it participates in the Trine (Ind.) University Invitational. Action will get started at 4 p.m.
