Women’s and men’s track/field teams place sixth and seventh at 2008 MIAA Field Day
The Olivet College women’s and men’s track and field teams placed sixth and seventh, respectively, at the 2008 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day.
The Olivet College women's and men's track and field teams placed sixth and seventh, respectively, at the 2008 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day.
The Comet women scored 11 points, while the men had 14 points. Calvin College successfully defended its league championships for both the men and women.
Scoring points for the Olivet women was freshman Ellen Schulz (Freeland), who was seventh in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.52 meters. She was also eighth in the long jump with a 4.60 meter leap. On the track, both the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays posted fifth-place finishes with season-best times. The 4x100 team consisted of Schulz, Bridget Holtz (Union/Constantine), Megan McCarty (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) and Christine Moulton (Royal Oak) and their time was 53.22 seconds. The 4x400 team consisted of Holtz, McCarty, Schulz and Veronica Maidens (Arcadia/Onekama) and their time was 4:31.46.
Scoring points for the Olivet men were sophomore Brandon Kimble (Grand Rapids/East Kentwood) and sophomore Blake Walters (Olivet). Kimble had a 6.48 meter leap in the long jump to finish in fourth-place. He was also sixth in the high jump (1.93 meter). Walters placed seventh in the javelin with a 47.49 meter toss.
On the track, both the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams places seventh. The 4x100 quartet was Pat Clasgens (Livonia/Stevenson), Joe Cleveland (St. Joseph), Jordan Dornan (Bangor) and Darrick Parker (Bangor) and its time was 45.72 seconds. Dornan along Casey Redfield (Shepherd), Nick Wolf (Charlotte/Olivet) and John Zenner (Kingsley) ran together on the 4x400-meter relay and their time was 3:50.89.
