Men's track and field team splits a pair of MIAA dual meets
The Olivet College men’s track/field team split a pair of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meets today at Albion College’s Elkin-Isaac Track. The Comets edged Alma College, 99-91, but fell to the host Britons, 125-62.
The Olivet College men's track/field team split a pair of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meets today at Albion College's Elkin-Isaac Track. The Comets edged Alma College, 99-91, but fell to the host Britons, 125-62.
On the track, Olivet had two first-places and three runner-up finishes. Individually, sophomore Lonnie White (Battle Creek/Central) captured first-place in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.83 seconds. Second-place finishes were by freshman Dante Carroll (Capital Heights, Md./Fairmont Heights) in the 400-meter dash (:41.85) and sophomore Thomas Ray (Constantine) in the 5,000-meter run (16:45.17). The Comets' 4x400-meter relay was first, while the 4x100-meter relay took second.
In the field events, Olivet had one champion and three second-place finishes. In the long jump, sophomore Joe Cleveland (St. Joseph) leaped 20'3.50" to finish in first-place. Senior Bobby Horton (Charlotte) had a pair of second-place finishes: shot put (45'1.50") and discus (135'7"). Freshman Blake Walters (Olivet) was second in the javelin with a lifetime-best 145'3" toss.
The Comets continue their MIAA schedule Wednesday, April 18, with a double dual at Hope College. Calvin College is the third participating school. Action gets under way at 2 p.m.
